Press Release: EEFF Calls upon the Global Community to Save Ethiopians
The Ethiopian and Eritrean Friendship Forum (EEFF) is shocked by the horrendous massacre of innocent Ethiopian migrants that took place in Libya on April 19, 2015. The massacre unfolding in Libya is deeply painful not only to Ethiopians but to the whole peace loving people of the world. We condemn this despicable act of terrorism that took the lives of several innocent refuges and stand with the victims’ families and the Ethiopian people during these very tragic times.
In the past several years, Ethiopians and Eritreans have been targets of horrible acts of human trafficking and violence. Especially, the recent wave of attacks and massacre against Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and lately in South Africa is shocking. But this week’s massacre of innocent and helpless Ethiopians in Libya is incomprehensible crime against humanity and should be condemned as such by every multilateral organization, government and people. Our bleeding hearts are with the families of the victims and the people of Ethiopia.
• We call upon the international community to join us in condemning this massacre in the strongest possible terms.
• We appeal to the United Nations to act promptly to end this wave of massacres and protect Ethiopians, Eritreans, and
all African immigrants displaced by difficult conditions at home and attacked by terrorists.
• We urge the state of Israel, the members of the Arab League and the African Union to treat Ethiopians and Eritreans
with dignity, humanity and fairness.
• We appeal to the United States government and the European Union to stop financing African leaders who committed
terrorist act against their own citizens, democracy and human rights.
• We request African leaders to stop actions that displace and push people out of their countries, and instead facilitate
conditions that keep people in their own countries.
• We call upon all Ethiopians and Eritreans to stand together during these difficult times and encourage the young generation to form international solidarity to overcome the ongoing global challenge.
